[Mid-August 2026 Update] MiniTavern v1.5.2 / v1.5.3: Thoughts, chat checkpoints, and in-chat card edits

MiniTavern v1.5.2 / v1.5.3 is a major update. The centerpiece is Thoughts: jot notes and ideas offline on the device, and the AI you last chatted with can reply to them—without using app request credits.
v1.5.2 also adds chat checkpoints and a round of polish; v1.5.3 covers in-chat card editing, Main Prompt permissions, and Thoughts-related fixes. Store builds may lag briefly (iOS is on v1.5.3; Android is still on v1.5.2 and will follow).
What’s in this release
Recent changes include:
- Member Thoughts — local notes, member-only AI replies, frequency stats
- Chat checkpoints — export PNGs with embedded history; import writes into a new chat
- Image send — exclusive models with a multimodal tag can attach images in the input bar
- In-chat card edits — take effect immediately, history kept (v1.5.3)
- Main Prompt — modification permission restored (v1.5.3)
- Launch speed, keyboard, About/Help pages, and Explore moved to the top of Home
- Stability and layout fixes
v1.5.2 major update
Thoughts (subscribers)
Subscribed members can jot down Thoughts. They are stored on the device only and cannot be recovered if the app is deleted.
The AI you last chatted with will discuss those Thoughts. This reply is member-exclusive and does not consume app-specific request credits. The Settings page shows how often Thoughts are recorded.
For everyone: chat checkpoints
Chats support Checkpoints: export PNGs with embedded chat history. When you import a character card that includes chat history, that history is kept and written into the conversation when you create a new chat.
This differs from Silly Tavern. It currently only covers MiniTavern’s own character-card and chat data transfer.
Optimizations
- The keyboard dismisses when chat-page pop-ups appear, reducing UI conflicts and freezes.
- Keyboard edge handling on iOS 27 is improved.
- App launch loading is faster, with less stutter.
- New-user guidance is cleaner, with consistent Home guide buttons.
- About and Help pages are redesigned; Help adds more support options.
- Explore moves to the top of Home.
From user feedback
Some app-exclusive models now support sending images. Pick a model with a multimodal tag and a new control appears in the chat input so you can attach an image; the model reads it and replies. Because of model limits, this can be unstable; we will keep improving it.
A new app icon on Android is no longer enlarged excessively.
v1.5.3 minor update and enhancements
Character-card profile edits during an active chat (major fix)
Thanks to user Em******7 for the report. Editing a character card’s profile while a chat is open now takes effect immediately, without a restart, and historical logs are kept. Use this carefully: a poor edit can slightly confuse context in an ongoing conversation.
Modification permission for the Main Prompt is restored.
Experience
- Original pop-up dialogs have updated styling and layout.
- The splash screen supports light/dark themes and VIP-exclusive variants.
- Bottom spacing under the main tab follows iOS 27 more closely.
- Persona re-editing adds a default random user avatar.
- Multi-persona editing and selection no longer require a restart, similar to renaming a character card.
- The legacy OpenRouter brand identifier is replaced.
- Haptic feedback is added for a series of actions so taps feel clearer.
Bugs and stability
- Several bugs in the Thoughts module are fixed.
- Cancel-deletion when removing a character card is fixed.
- Secondary-page text layout no longer overflows on narrow widths.
- Permission prompts when choosing a personal avatar are cleaner.
- Stability for advanced models is improved, with more work still planned.
- Known server-side issues are patched.
iOS users should update to v1.5.3. Android users can take the current store build of v1.5.2 and pick up v1.5.3 when it lands.

FAQ
Q1: Are iOS and Android on the same version right now?
Not yet. iOS is on v1.5.3; Android is still on v1.5.2 and will follow. Use whichever build the store currently lists.
Q2: Can Thoughts be recovered after uninstalling?
No. Thoughts live only on the device. Deleting the app removes them.
Q3: Do chat checkpoints work with Silly Tavern?
Not as a drop-in. They currently only transfer MiniTavern’s own character-card and chat data, which is not the same as Silly Tavern’s approach.
Q4: Do I need to install v1.5.2 before v1.5.3?
No. Install or update to the latest store build for your platform.
